Works on installation of fire alarm and video surveillance system in the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been completed

By completing the works on installation of the fire alarm and video surveillance system in
the entire complex of the National Museum of BiH in Sarajevo the basic conditions have
been achieved for preventing the damage to objects and collections. The installation of
these systems is part of the preventive conservation of the museum and museum
collections.

The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina received the most up-to- date equipment,
and over 120,000 BAM was invested in the implementation of all preparatory activities and
works. During the execution of the works, a consideration was given to the adequate
positions of cameras, fire detectors and other devices in order to preserve the visual
impression of the exhibition space while at the same time ensuring the maximum
functionality. Within the Project's activities, the museum employees have also been trained
to manage and monitor the operation of these systems.

The installation of fire alarm system was carried out by the company Vatrosistemi d.o.o.
Sarajevo, and the video surveillance system was installed by Securitas d.o.o. Sarajevo.
Supervision of the works was done by DSC d.o.o. Sarajevo, while the supervision with regard
the protection of the monuments was performed by the Institute for the Protection of
Monuments within the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sport.

These works constitute a part of the project "Preventive Conservation of the Collections of
National Museum of BiH in Sarajevo" for which the funds have been donated by the Special
Fund of US Ambassadors for the preservation of cultural heritage with the US Embassy in
BiH. A project in the amount of $ 625,000.00 (1,070,000.00 BAM) is being carried out by the
Commission to Preserve National Monuments. The primary conservation project aims to
prevent, stop or slow down the destruction of museum materials by introducing high
standards of protection and creating optimal conditions for its preservation.
