The Commission to Preserve National Monuments in cooperation with the National Museum of BiH, held today in the Department of Ethnology of the National museum a lecture on a theme of preventive conservation. The event was attended by students of University of Sarajevo, who are expected to work on planning, managing, protection and conservation of cultural and historical heritage within their professional carriers.

The lecture on preventive conservation carried out as a part of interventions on the buildings was held by Medina Hadžihasanović-Katana and Aida Bičakčić, from the Commission to Preserve National Monuments whereas the lecture on the theme "Permanent exhibition of prehistoric collection of the National Museum BiH – new museological challenges" was held by Andrijana Pravidur, a head of Department for Archaeology of the National museum.

The lectures were held within the Project "Preventive conservation of the collections of National museum of BiH" funded by the special U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, through the US Embassy in BiH, in the amount of 625,000.00 USD (1,070,000.00 BAM). The Project is being implemented by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments.

Project activities are focused on preventive conservation which aims to prevent, stop or slow down the deterioration of the museum collection by introducing high standards of care and creating optimal conditions for its preservation.

Implementation of the part of activities in terms of preventive conservation of the Museum complex was planned for 2016, which includes ensuring security conditions for the complex and activities related to the restoration of roofs on the buildings where departments of archeology and natural history are located, as well as the restoration of the concrete balustrade railing of the complex.

All project activities, which will be implemented in stages, will improve presentation and security of the museum collections in all the pavilions of the National Museum.
