Restoration of the roof and balustrade fences of the National Museum of BiH

9/23/2018

Works within the project "Preventive conservation of the collections of National Museum of BiH in Sarajevo" on the restoration of roofs above the Prehistory department have started. The works on the roofs include the replacement of the worn wooden structure and existing cover with the Zink sheet metal that has a longer lifespan. The renovation of roofs precedes works on the restoration of ceiling and wall painting, which is a rare example of preserved Art Nouveau painting in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Furthermore, works on the restoration of concrete balustrade fences on the outer terraces of the museum complex are underway. The value of works on roofs and balustrades is about 300,000 BAM. The contractor is a company "Neimari" d.o.o Sarajevo, while the supervision is performed by the company "IG" Banja Luka. Supervision of works is carried out by the Institute for the Protection of Monuments within the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports. In addition, the works on the reconstruction of electrical installations are being completed within the project.

All the works stated above will create the conditions for setting up the exhibition, which will be presented in the reconstructed exhibition rooms of the Department of prehistory again, after many years.

The works are carried out within the project "Preventive conservation of the collections of the National Museum of BiH in Sarajevo" for which the funds were donated by the Special Fund of US Ambassadors for Preservation of Cultural Heritage with the US Embassy in BiH. The project, in the amount of $ 625,000.00 (1,070,000.00 BAM) is being implemented by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments. More information:
